The ‘Laat Het Licht Aan’ lesson package has been developed by Throughout Productions and Happy Learning. ‘Laat Het Licht Aan’ is a depression prevention show for secondary school students in the Netherlands supported b1by 113 Zelfmoordpreventie and Unicef Nederland. Many young people in their teenage years struggle with negative thoughts. Who am I, what do I want, am I doing it right, why am I not like others, why am I not happy? Doubts about everything, which can easily lead to gloominess and depression. "We are concerned about the mental health of young people and the initiator Jarno Korf uses his own experience in a very powerful way to help them recognize depression. This is done through the theater performance and the teaching package." ‘Laat Het Licht Aan’ has already been played for more than 20,000 high school students. The accompanying lesson package ensures that the topic of depression and the relevant resources are embedded into the students’ learning. Embedding is important for depression prevention as it ensures that the knowledge and skills acquired during the show are applied permanently. The lesson package allows students to expand and revise their knowledge, helping them to be better prepared to prevent health issues such as depression. Additionally, the lesson package gives students the chance to talk to each other about what they have learned, enabling them to gain a better understanding and appreciation for the topic.
